John McCain is set to be laid to rest this week after passing away on Saturday.

The senator’s funeral is set to be attended by a host of dignitaries from American politics as the nation mourns a war hero. Here’s what we know about the service.

The services to remember John McCain will get underway on Wednesday.

He is set to be honoured both in the state of Arizona, which he represented in the US Senate for 31 years, and in Washington DC.

McCain will lie in state in the Arizona Capitol in Phoenix tomorrow so Arizonans can pay their respects to the senator.

Former Senator Jon Kyl, who has been discussed as a possible successor to McCain, will speak and outgoing Arizona senator Jeff Flake will give a benediction.

Members of the public will be invited to pay their respects at the State Capitol from 1 p.m. through 8 p.m. on Wednesday.

On Thursday a memorial service will be held at 10 am at the North Phoenix Baptist church where, among others, former Vice President Joe Biden will pay tribute to McCain.

His body will then be transported by the military to Washington DC where he will lie in state in the Capitol Rotunda on Friday.

President Donald Trump is not planning to attend McCain’s funeral and the pair frequently clashed during his their careers.
