On Christmas morning, the US president drew a line in the sand: money for his border wall or the shutdown will continue. The partial US government shutdown took effect after the Senate failed to pass a budget that included the US$5bn he demanded for a wall. Democratic senators are offering US$1.3bn for border security – the same amount that was allocated in 2018.
