Trump says missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi appears to be dead

The president has vowed ‘very severe’ consequences if the Saudi government is found responsible for the murder of Jamal Khashoggi. He was last seen entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul. Khashoggi’s alleged murder threatens U.S.-Saudi relations, including $110 billion in arms sales to Trump’s Middle Eastern ally.

Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said Thursday he won’t attend a summit in Saudi Arabia amid pressures on the White House, while Secretary of State Mike Pompeo asked for “a few more days” for Saudi Arabia to complete its own investigation into Khashoggi’s death.
