The Taiwanese will be voting in local government elections on November 24.

Alongside these elections, 10 referendums will be held. One of the referendums is about a name change for the 2020 Summer Olympics. The island will vote to decide whether it will compete as Taiwan instead of the current Chinese Taipei.

China, which claims sovereignty over self-ruling democratic Taiwan, is particularly sensitive to the island’s use of names, emblems and flags at international events. The International Olympic Committee warned that Taiwan could lose its right to compete in the Games.
