Vietnamese paid tributes to US senator John McCain, who died on August 25, after a year-long battle with brain cancer. McCain was once held captive as a prisoner of war in Hanoi for five years during the Vietnam conflict. McCain was a navy pilot and his plane was shot down over Hanoi. He later played a key role in normalising US-Vietnam relations. McCain was 81.
