George W. Bush’s full eulogy for George H.W. Bush

Former President George W. Bush remembers former President George H.W. Bush’s love for his country, his family and a good laugh during his eulogy for his dad.

George W. Bush held back tears during his emotional eulogy for his father, former President George H.W. Bush.

“To his very last day, Dad’s life was instructive,” the 43rd president said at the funeral for the 41st president, a life that ranged from flying combat missions in World War II at age 20 to racing speed boats and parachuting in his 80s.

The younger Bush’s eulogy was another marker in a historic and close relationship, the first father-and-son presidents since John Adams and John Quincy Adams two centuries ago.

George W. Bush recounted his father’s life interspersed with humor and reflection.

“He showed us how setbacks could strengthen,” the former president said. “He loved to laugh, especially at himself.”
