Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan appealed for calm as the country’s currency plunged, he urged people to change foreign money into local lira.
The lira tumbled about 10 percent on Friday to another record low as investors worried about Erdogan’s unorthodox economic policies and U.S. sanctions.
Erdogan appeared to blame foreigners for trying to hurt Turkey, “This will be my people’s response against those waging an economic war against us,” he said.
The lira fell further as Erdogan spoke.
