Voting began Sunday in Bangladesh’s contentious parliamentary elections, seen as a referendum on what critics call Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s increasingly authoritarian rule.Voters in Dhaka began lining up outside polling booths early in the morning and started voting at 8 a.m. (0200 GMT) when polls opened.

Some 106 million people are eligible to vote, including many young, first-time voters.
