Amazon showed off a bevy of new products linked by their cloud-based voice service Alexa. The Seattle-based online retailer is launching a microwave, a plug-in and clock all connected to its home services.Dave Limp, vice president of devices and services, says Amazon engineers have been working hard this past year to improve Alexa’s capabilities and widening its reach to the customer. Amazon launched Alexa four years ago. “As we dug in more on smart home, we’ve made a huge amount of progress,” Limp said. “There’s no question about it but we think the reason that it’s taken off is that when you think about smart home it’s like music it becomes more convenient when you have it on Alexa.” The company also unveiled a new version of their personal assistant device Echo, subwoofers, amps and a car assistant with Alexa. The company is also integrating Alexa with Ring cameras and apps. Amazon acquired the home security company earlier this year.
