President Donald Trump took his enthusiasm for his detente with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to new heights, declaring at a rally that ‘we fell in love’ after exchanging letters. Jillian Kitchener reports.
Roughly a year ago U.S. President Donald Trump was hauling insults at Kim Jong Un…

With the North Korean leader responding by calling Trump a ‘mentally deranged U.S. dotard’…

But now – after a historic summit earlier this year in which the two discussed denuclearization of the Korean peninsula -Trump has taken his affection for Kim to new heights, even using the L-word.

At a campaign-style rally in Wheeling, West Virginia Saturday night, Trump spoke of letters the two exchanged prior to their meeting.

(SOUNDBITE)(English) PRESIDENT DONALD TRUMP, SAYING:

“When I did it and I was really being tough – and so was he. And we would go back and forth. And then we fell in love, okay? No, really – he wrote me beautiful letters, and they’re great letters. We fell in love.”

Those fuzzy feelings aside – Pyongyang now says there’s no way it will disarm itself as long as the U.S. keeps up sanctions.

But U.S. officials say the sanctions are staying put – until North Korea meets U.S. demands to take irreversible steps to give up its arsenal.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration says it’s preparing for a second summit with Kim – the time and place to be determined.

While Trump fired up the crowd inside the West Virginia arena, protesters outside took jabs at the president and his embattled Supreme Court Nominee Brett Kavanaugh.

Trump is expected to travel to at least 4 four more states this week – including Tenessee and Kansas – in support of Republican candidates ahead of November 6th’s midterm elections.
